Microchip Information

We use recommend the use of the AVID microchip in all puppies placed with families. If possible, purchase your puppy from a breeder that implants a microchip before your dog leaves their kennel. If not, take your dog to the veterinarian and get a microchip implanted as soon as you are able.

When a breeder purchases the AVID Microchip, the chip is initially registered to the breeder as the point of purchase. Even if an owner never registers the chip in their own name, it will always be registered to the breeder.

When the puppy owner registers the chip in their own name, the dual chip registration makes it even more likely that a lost puppy will be returned quickly.

You can register your AVID chip with PETtrac and/or the AKC. Either registration -- or both -- will add that extra level of security if your pet becomes lost.
